Lynne Hamill

Lynne Hamill is currently a PhD student in the Centre for Research in Social Simulation at the University of Surrey. Her thesis investigates the growth in communications and travel over the last 150 years. She is particularly interested in the interaction between social, communication and transport networks. Previously she worked in the Digital World Research Centre at the University of Surrey and in the UK Government Economic Service.

Nigel Gilbert

Nigel Gilbert read for a first degree in Engineering, intending to go into the computer industry. However, he was lured into sociology and obtained his doctorate on the sociology of scientific knowledge from the University of Cambridge. His research and teaching interests have reflected his continuing interest in both sociology and computer science (and engineering more widely). From 1998 to 2005, he was also Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff Development at the University of Surrey. He was President of the European Social Simulation Association (ESSA) in 2004-6 and is founding Editor of JASSS.
