Michele Buttò completed his masters in Political Science at the University of São Paulo in 2009. He currently works as vice director in the Exporters Consortium of the Chamber of Commerce in Piacenza, Italy. His research interests include complexity and economics, emergent properties, and agent based modeling, empirically applied to international trade and political economy.

Carlos Pereira

Carlos Pereira is Professor of political economy and comparative political institutions at the Getulio Vargas Foundation-FGV, Rio de Janeiro. He was a visiting fellow at Brookings Institution and an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University. His work has led to articles published in several refereed journals such as Journal of Politics, Journal of Democracy, Comparative Political Studies, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, Governance, Electoral Studies, among others. He is co-author of Making Brazil Work: Checking the President in a Multiparty System (Palgrave-McMillan, 2013), and of the forthcoming Beliefs, Leadership, and Critical Transitions: Brazil 1964-2014 (Princeton University Press, forthcoming 2014).

Matthew Taylor

Matthew Taylor is an associate professor at the School of International Service at American University. His research focuses on corruption and organized crime, state capacity and public policy, and Latin American political economy. Taylor is the author of Judging Policy: Courts and Policy Reform in Democratic Brazil (Stanford University Press, 2008), and co-editor with Timothy J. Power of Corruption and Democracy in Brazil: The Struggle for Accountability (University of Notre Dame Press, 2011). His scholarly work has been published in a variety of journals, including Comparative Politics, Perspectives on Politics, Journal of Latin American Studies, Latin American Politics and Society, and World Politics.
