Xin Gu

Xin Gu completed her Bachelor degree in Information Science with Honours at Massey University, New Zealand, in 2005. Between 2003 and 2012, Xin worked as software developer and progressed to senior software developer / team leader. From 2012, Xin started her PhD study at the University of Newcastle, Australia.

Karen Blackmore

Dr Karen Blackmore is a Lecturer in Information Technology at the School of Design, Communication and IT, The University of Newcastle, Australia. Dr Blackmore¹s PhD research was cross-disciplinary in nature and focused on agent-based modelling of business strategies, and the impact of these strategies on resource needs. Research expertise spans a number of areas including the use of agent based models of complex adaptive systems, the application of data mining and pattern recognition techniques to understand patterns, spatial and aspatial models of social and physical systems and cross-disciplinary research issues.

David Cornforth

David Cornforth received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nottingham Trent University, UK, in 1982, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 1994. He has been an educator and researcher at Charles Sturt University, the University of New South Wales, and now at the University of Newcastle. He has also been a research scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Newcastle, Australia. His research interests are in health information systems, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, multiagent simulation, and optimization.

Keith Nesbitt

Dr Keith Nesbitt completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Newcastle University in 1988 and his Masters in Computing in 1993. Between 1989-1999, Keith worked on applied computer research for BHP Research, Australia. His PhD examined the design of multi-sensory displays and was completed at Sydney University in 2003. He worked as a senior lecturer at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, teaching computer games and programming between 2003-2006. In 2007 he completed a post-doctoral year in Boston working at The New England Complex Systems Institute before joining Newcastle University where he is currently employed as a Senior Lecturer.
