Ammar Malik
I am a PhD student and Graduate Research Assistant at the School of Public Policy at George Mason University just outside Washington D.C. I have obtained a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan, Masters in Public Policy from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, and Masters in Public Affairs from Institut d’Etudes politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Before starting my PhD, I worked as Program Officer Housing at the National Disaster Management Authority in Islamabad, Pakistan during the monsoon floods of 2010. I have also been part of Standard Chartered Bank’s International Graduate Program, working as Relationship Manager for Small and Medium Enterprise Banking in Lahore, Pakistan. I am also a public policy consultant and have completed projects for the World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Growth Center (IGC). My PhD dissertation is titled ‘Understanding the Form and Function of Developing Country Cities: An Agent-Based Modeling Approach’ which investigates the links between spatial urban structures and human creativity, focusing on their relationship with economic growth. My PhD is being supervised by Dr. Jonathan Gifford, Dr. Hilton Root and Dr. Andrew Crooks. The USAID sponsored Pakistan Competitive Grants Program has funded my research on Pakistan. In addition, I serve as Adviser and Editor to the International Policy Leadership Institute in Paris. I am also an avid cricketer, currently the Vice President of the Washington Chargers Cricket Association.
