Dwight W. Read is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Statistics, UCLA and is currently a Visiting Professor with the Department of Anthropology, University of Kent at Canterbury. He was previously a Visiting Scientist with the IBM Science Center, Los Angeles. He is one of the Directors of the Center for Computational Social Science at UCLA. His Ph.D. at UCLA was in mathematics (infinite Boolean algebras). He publishes in most of the subfields of anthropology (statistical modeling of hominid evolution, theory and method of artifactual classification, and formal representation of cultural constructs.) He has edited two Special Issues of the Journal of Quantitative Anthropology (Computer-Based Solutions to Anthropological Problems (1990) and Formal Methods in Anthropology: Past Successes and New Directions (1993)). Current modeling work is on agent-based modeling of cultural and social systems.
