Thomas Brenner studied physics at the University of Stuttgart. He received a PhD in physics there in 1995. After half a year on a teaching position at the University of Freiburg he went to the Max-Planck-Institute for Research into Economic Systems in Jena. He received a PhD in economics in 1998 from the University of Jena. In the winter term 1997/1998 he was a research visitor at the University College of London. Since then he works as an associative researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute in Jena.
