Nigel Gilbert has a degree in Engineering and a doctorate in the sociology of science. His main research interests are in the use of simulation in the social sciences, the sociology of the environment and science policy. He has written a number of books on social research methods and statistics, including Nigel Gilbert and Klaus G. Troitzsch Simulation for the Social Scientist (Open University Press, 1999). He is Director of the Centre for Research on Simulation in the Social sciences, and editor of JASSS. He is Professor of Sociology at the University of Surrey, and also a Pro Vice-Chancellor there.
