Rainer Hegselmann obtained his master's degree in social sciences in 1973 at the University of Bochum, Germany. He took his PhD in philosophy from the University Essen in 1977. He was professor of philosophy at the University of Bremen 1988-1996. In the academic year 1994/95 he was fellow in residence at The Netherlands Institute For Advanced Study (NIAS). 1995 he was guest professor at the Institute For Advanced Study in Vienna, Austria. During the academic year 1999/2000 he was research fellow in the research group "Making Choices" at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF, Bielefeld University). Since 1996 he is professor of philosophy at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. His main research interests concern modelling and simulation of social dynamics, moral philosophy, philosophy of science, and the history of early analytical philosophy.

Ulrich Krause obtained his PhD. in Mathematics in 1967 from the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg and his PhD. in Economics in 1979 from the University of Hannover. Since 1973 he is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bremen, Germany. He has been Visiting Professor at various Universities and he published books and articles in Mathematics as well as in Economics. His main research interest is in algebra/number theory, difference equations, positive discrete dynamical systems, social and economic dynamical modelling, theory of production, decision theory/social choice.
