Rémy Courdier obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. Between 1988 and 1996 he managed several R&D Projects at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Geneva and at Schneider PLC Laboratories, Sophia-Antipolis. Since 1996 he has been assistant Professor at the Applied Mathematics and Computer Sciences Research Institute (IREMIA) of the University of La Réunion. He works on the design of simulation applications using multi-agents systems and the infra-structures required for their use. He contributed to the design and the development of the GEAMAS multi-agent platform. In the context of the GEAMAS Project, he is currently working on ontological representation approaches in simulation applications based on multi-agent systems, in respect to agent architecture and application design.

François Guerrin is currently doing research in agricultural systems modeling and leads a research team devoted to animal wastes management at Cirad (Centre de coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) in Saint-Denis (Reunion Island). Prior to assuming his current position late 1997, he spent 10 years (1987-1997) as a research scientist at Inra (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) in Toulouse (France) where he developed Qualitative Reasoning methodologies and softwares with applications to environmental systems. From 1981 to 1996 he worked as a freshwater ecologist at the Agence de l'Eau Adour-Garonne (Toulouse), Cemagref (Institut de recherche pour l'ingénierie de l'agriculture et de l'environnement) in Montpellier and at Inra, in French Guyana, doing research on wastewater reclamation and reuse for aquaculture. He holds a Ph.D. in hydrobiology from Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse) and is an editorial board member of the international journal Ecological Modelling.

Fenintsoa Andriamasinoro is currently a PhD student at the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Research Institute (IREMIA) of the University of La Réunion. His general research interests are in agent-based systems. Currently, his work is focused on combining collective agents’Äô reactive (emergence) and cognitive (intentional) behavior, based on natural instinct (human and animal), needs and mind concepts (conscious/unconscious). The final application is an environment in which many natural entities are present, some of them interacting to avoid (or, to augment) environmental deterioration. The geographical area is the Indian Ocean. Fenintsoa Andriamasinoro holds a MS-degree in Computer Sciences (1999) from IREMIA and a Master Degree in Computer-Engineering (1998) from the National Computer School of Madagascar.

Jean-Marie Paillat is currently doing research both on the processing and the agricultural utilization of animal waste composting, at Inra (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) in Rennes (France). Prior to assuming his current position in late 2000, he spent 17 years (1983-2000) as a research scientist at Cirad (Centre de coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) in Saint-Denis (Reunion Island). From 1983 to 1987, he worked on agricultural mechanization of small farms. From 1988 to 1995 he worked on forage management and developed the round bale wrapping technique in the Reunion Island. His research covers: composition and drying of forage, quality and resistance of polythene stretch films under tropical and high-altitude climates, conservation of silage, working time and costing. From 1996 until April 2000, he initiated a new Cirad project on animal waste management and led a research team on N and C cycling, waste management, decision-making and modelling. He holds a Ph.D. in agronomic sciences from the INA-PG (Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon).
