Michael Agar is professor emeritus in anthropology and linguistics at the University of Maryland. He currently works as Senior Research Scientist at Friends Social Research Center in Baltimore on an NIH funded project to explain illicit drug epidemics. He has researched and published on drug issues since the 1960s, with other work in ethnographic theory and method and language and culture. Prior to his agent-based epiphany, he spent several years collaborating with the artificial intelligentsia on discourse analysis of ethnographic interviews.
