Dr. Matthias Scheutz is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. His main work focusses on investigations of how to utilitize affect in the control of intelligent artificial agents. He has developed an artificial life simulation environment called SimWorld, which he uses to study trade-offs of different agent architectures in different environments. Recently, he became interested in mechanisms for resolving social conflicts and ways of analyzing and implementing them in biologically plausible settings.

Paul Schermerhorn received a B.A. from Goshen College (Goshen, IN) in 1995, majoring in Accounting and Psychology. He then pursued graduate studies in the Department of Philosophy at Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, IL), completing the M.A. in 1999. After receiving a M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN) in 2002, he is currently working on his Ph.D. at Notre Dame in the field of artificial intelligence with a focus on social coordination in multi-agent systems.
