Günter Küppers wrote his dissertation in theoretical physics and received his habilitation from the University of Vienna. His fields of specialization are plasma physics, hydrodynamics, philosophy and history of science, system theory and the theory of self-organization. A former member of the board of directors of the Institute for Science and Technology Studies at Bielefeld University, currently he is member of the EU High Level Expert Group "Forsighting the New Technology Wave".

Johannes Lenhard received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Frankfurt. Currently he is conducting a research project on the epistemology of simulation at the Institute for Science and Technology Studies (IWT), University of Bielefeld. His fields of interest cover the philosophy of mathematics, with a focus also on more general philosophy, sociology, and history of science.
